A DCNR Sustainability Fair was held at Clear Creek State Park on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 10 am to 1 pm. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about sustainable technology and related policies that are advancing in PA. The event offered a first-hand look at solar generators, a hybrid vehicle as well as activities for children and youth to ask questions about careers in the sustainability field.
Shaun Wessell and Dana Grabowski represented the District. Using the Enviroscape, Shaun showed attendees there are many pollutants in our community that can affect our surface water. Dana used the groundwater flow model to demonstrate the many contaminants that can get into our springs, wells, streams and groundwater.
Presentations were provided on worm composting, gathering local edibles, sustainable dairy farming, safe food handling, managing woodlots as well as a mobile power lab. It was a wonderful, educational day for all ages.
